Walking track

Lyle S. Hallman Foundation Indoor Track 

The Lyle S. Hallman Foundation Indoor Track provides a safe, year-round space for walkers to stay active and healthy. 

  • Location: 135 Lennox Lewis Way, Kitchener, ON (Located above Tom Graham Arena at the Activa Sportsplex)
  • Cost: Free of charge
  • Standard Operating Hours: Open every day, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Closures & Altered Hours 

  • Closed on May 1, 2 and 3

Important Notice

Please note that walking track hours will be affected during certain dates. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. 

Lane Lengths:

  • Inside Lane: 536 feet (162.4 metres)
  • Middle Lane: 555 feet (168.2 metres)
  • Outside Lane: 574 feet (174 metres) 

Laps per Distance: 

One Kilometre:

  • Inside Lane: 6.2 laps
  • Middle Lane: 6 laps
  • Outside Lane: 5.75 laps 

One Mile: 

  • Inside Lane: 9.9 laps
  • Middle Lane: 9.5 laps
  • Outside Lane: 9.2 laps

Lyle S. Hallman Foundation Indoor Track Guidelines 

To ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience, please follow the guidelines below when using the track: 

Preparation:

  • Arrive in walking attire; you may change your shoes at the track level.
  • No change rooms or showers are available.
  • Washrooms are open with limited capacity protocols. 

Upon Arrival:

  • Remain in the designated drop-in space; wandering throughout the building is not permitted. 

Safety Measures:

  • Bring a filled water bottle; limited refilling stations are available. 

Walking Guidelines:

  • Follow the posted walking direction.
  • Always keep moving; do not stand in the walking zone.
  • Pass others on their right side. 

Lane Designations:

  • Lane 1 (inside): Slow walkers
  • Lane 2 (middle): Medium-paced walkers
  • Lane 3 (outside): Fast walkers 

Personal Item Storage:

  • Lockers are available in the upper lobby.
  • Use designated areas for personal items like water bottles and coats.
  • Leave valuables at home; the City of Kitchener is not responsible for lost or stolen items. 

Food, Drinks, and Equipment:

  • Only water bottles are allowed in the track area.
  • No food or beverages (other than water).
  • No spitting water in the track area.
  • Leave equipment like skipping ropes, medicine balls, and floor mats outside the track area. 

Access:

  • The track is for recreational use only.
  • Private reservations and spectators are not permitted. 

Strollers:

  • Use the inside lane if you have a stroller.
  • Groups with strollers must walk in a single-file line. 

Supervision:

  • Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Teams must have an adult coach or manager present. 

Music:

  • Headphones must be worn when listening to music.
  • City staff control the track’s music.

Public skating

Free skates sponsored by Josslin Insurance

Josslin Insurance has partnered with The Aud and Arenas to offer free community skating at local Kitchener arenas!

These are drop-in free skates and do not require registration.

To accommodate other events, skating programs are sometimes affected. Please check our skating schedule for updates and cancellations. Public skating guidelines apply to all skating events where the public is invited to skate. Recreational skating only. No training, sticks, and/or pucks.

PD Day/holiday skates

  • Monday, May 18 at Activa Sportsplex from 1:15 to 4:35 p.m.
  • Monday, May 18 at Sportsworld Arena from 9 a.m. to noon
  • Friday, May 29 at Activa Sportsplex from 12:15 to 3:15 p.m.

    • Family Rate: $15.58
    • A family consists of up to 2 adults and their children living in the same household.
  • Participation:

    • Recreational family skating only (no training, sticks, or pucks).
    • Children must be accompanied by an adult.
    • One adult (18+) can register on behalf of the family.

  • Public Skating Guidelines:
    • Recreational skating only.
    • No training equipment, sticks, or pucks are permitted.

  • No pucks, sticks or games permitted.
  • Keeping pace - Avoid excessively fast skating and stopping (socializing), which could interfere with traffic flow.
  • Shoes - No shoes allowed unless assistance is being provided to help tots to skate in the cordoned off area or during a family skating session.
  • Skating aids - Skating aids are available on a limited basis (please see arena Ambassador). Strollers, chairs, toboggans and wagons not permitted.
  • Wheelchairs/sledges - Wheelchairs, wheelchair skates and sledges are welcome on Municipal arenas and outdoor rinks. Individuals using these devices must travel in the same direction as the other skaters. Attendants/helpers are welcome to assist individuals however they must wear skates.
  • Where there are admission charges to an arena for public skating, the attendant/helper is admitted at no-charge upon presentation of a PAL Card. To apply for a PAL Card and/or to reserve wheelchair skates and sledges, please contact 519-741-2220 ext. 7225 or TTY 1-866-969-9994
  • Use of helmets - Helmets are recommended for all skaters.
  • Carrying of infants/children - Children must not be carried by any means (e.g. sitting on shoulders, being carried in arms or carried in equipment such as "snugglies" or in back packs).
  • Sitting on boards - Patrons may not sit on the rink boards at any time.
  • Figure skating - is permitted at the discretion of the arena attendant.

Additional Information:

  • Goalies: Play for free!
  • Minimum Participants: 10 players and 2 goalies required.
  • Note: Drop-ins are not permitted at this time.

To ensure safety and a fun experience for all, please follow these guidelines while roller skating:

Important Information:

  • Registration: Required in advance through ActiveNet (opens 14 days before each session).
  • Equipment: Roller skates will not be available for rent.
  • Restrictions:
    • Recreational roller skating only (no training, sticks, or balls permitted).
    • Children must be accompanied by an adult in the facility.

General Guidelines:

No Games or Equipment: Pucks, sticks, or games are not permitted on the rink.

Skating Pace: Avoid skating too fast or stopping for socialising, as this may disrupt the flow of traffic on the rink.

Shoes: Shoes are not allowed on the skating surface unless assisting young children in designated areas.

Skating Aids: Strollers, chairs, toboggans, and wagons are not permitted on the rink.

Wheelchairs and Accessibility Devices:

Wheelchairs and Wheelchair Skates: Welcome on municipal skating surfaces.

Travel Direction: Users must skate in the same direction as the rest of the skaters.

Attendants/Helpers: Welcome, but must wear skates.

  • Admission: Attendants/helpers are admitted free upon presentation of a PAL Card when admission is charged.
  • To apply for a PAL Card or reserve wheelchair skates, contact 519-741-2220 ext. 7225 or TTY 1-866-969-9994.

Safety Guidelines:

Carrying Infants/Children: Children must not be carried by any means (e.g., in arms, on shoulders, or in carriers/backpacks).

Sitting on Rink Boards: Sitting on the rink boards is prohibited at all times.

Pickleball

Pay as you play pickleball! Pickleball is one of the fastest-growing racquet sports, combining elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis into a dynamic game. It’s a competitive sport suitable for all ages and abilities (18+).

Note: Equipment rentals are not available at this time.

  • Clean dry shoes
  • Bring your own water bottle – water refilling station available.
  • No lockers – leave your valuable at home, the City of Kitchener is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
  • You must remain in your designated court.
  • Please be respectful of others using other courts.
  • Reservation rules
  • The current facility is reserved by a rental block.
  • Residents can make reservations at least 1 day in advance but not more than 14 days in advance.
  • Non-residents can make reservations at least 1 day(s) in advance but not more than 14 days in advance.
  • Online reservations open at 8:30 AM on the first accepted advance day.
