Walking Track
The Lyle S. Hallman Foundation indoor track offers walkers, a safe place to lace up and get some exercise all year-round.

Located above the KMHA Alumni ice pad at the Activa Sportsplex, the track is open - free of charge every day.

The walking track is open year-round, Mon-Sun 7:00 am-10:00 pm.

Track dimensions

The lengths of each lane are:

  • inside lane: 536 feet, 162.4 metres
  • middle lane: 555 feet, 168.2 metres
  • outside lane: 574 feet, 174 metres

One kilometre on each lane is:

  • inside lane: 6.2 laps
  • middle lane: 6 laps
  • outside lane: 5.75 laps

One mile on each lane is:

  • inside lane: 9.9 laps
  • middle lane: 9.5 laps
  • outside lane: 9.2 laps
 Walking track Information
Track guidelines

You must come prepared to participate with your walking clothes on. You may change your shoes when you arrive at track level. There are no change rooms or showers available. Washrooms are open at track level with limited capacity protocols in place.

When you arrive

You must remain in the designated drop-in space and cannot wander throughout the building.

Safety measures

  • please bring your own filled water bottle
  • there are limited bottle refilling stations open if you need to refill your water bottle

Walking guidelines

  • follow the posted walking direction
  • do not stand in the walking zone, always keep moving
  • always pass to the person's right side

Lanes are designated for your safety:

  • lane 1 (inside lane): slow
  • lane 2 (middle lane): medium
  • lane 3 (outside lane): fast

Personal item storage

Lockers are available in the upper lobby to place personal items such as a water bottle, coat, etc. Please place your items on your specific designated area only. Leave valuables at home, the City of Kitchener is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Food, drinks and other items

  • leave food and beverages outside of the track area
  • you can bring a water bottle into the track area
  • do not spit water in the track area
  • leave equipment outside of the track area, including:
    • skipping ropes, medicine balls, floor mats and other items

Access

  • the track is for recreational use only
  • you cannot reserve the track for private use
  • we do not allow spectators into the track area

Strollers

  • stay on the inside track if you have a stroller
  • if you're travelling in a group, please stay in a single-file line

Supervision

  • children under the age of 13 must have an adult present
  • teams using the track must have an adult coach or manager present
  • city staff choose the music playing in the track

Music

  • headphones must be worn when listening to music

Josslin Insurance has Partnered with The Aud and Arenas to offer Free Community Skating at local Kitchener arenas this season!

You do not need to register for Josslin Insurance Free Community Skating.

To accommodate other events, skating programs are sometimes affected. Reminders will be placed in facilities well in advance of such changes. Please check our skating schedule for updates and cancellations. Public skating guidelines apply to all skating events where the public are invited to skate.

Recreational skating only. No training, sticks and/or pucks.  

 Public skating guidelines
  1.  No pucks, sticks or games permitted.
  2. Keeping pace - Avoid excessively fast skating and stopping (socializing), which could interfere with traffic flow.
  3. Shoes - No shoes allowed unless assistance is being provided to help tots to skate in the cordoned off area or during a family skating session.
  4. Skating aids - Skating aids are available on a limited basis (please see arena Ambassador). Strollers, chairs, toboggans and wagons not permitted.
  5. Wheelchairs/sledges - Wheelchairs, wheelchair skates and sledges are welcome on Municipal arenas and outdoor rinks. Individuals using these devices must travel in the same direction as the other skaters. Attendants/helpers are welcome to assist individuals however they must wear skates.
  6. Where there are admission charges to an arena for public skating, the attendant/helper is admitted at no-charge upon presentation of a PAL Card. To apply for a PAL Card and/or to reserve wheelchair skates and sledges, please contact 519-741-2220 ext. 7225 or TTY 1-866-969-9994
  7. Use of helmets - Helmets are recommended for all skaters.
  8. Carrying of infants/children - Children must not be carried by any means (e.g. sitting on shoulders, being carried in arms or carried in equipment such as "snugglies" or in back packs).
  9. Sitting on boards - Patrons may not sit on the rink boards at any time.
  10. Figure skating - is permitted at the discretion of the arena attendant.
 Family skating
Preregistration for skating is required through Active Kitchener. Drop ins are not permitted at this time.

Hot Chocolate Skates

Josslin Insurance has teamed up with The Aud & Arenas to provide FREE hot chocolate to skaters at the following family skates:
