COVID-19 Arena Rental FAQ

  • Mandatory active screening, contact information and attendance for all patrons.
  • A facility is permitted 10 participants (players or skaters) per ice pad.  Coaches, trainers, employees and guardians are not counted towards the 10.

  • One parent/guardian can accompany a minor under the age of 18 and stay to spectate during the program.
  • For all team sport, scrimmages and games are no longer permitted.
  • Teams must adjust their programming to training and skill development only, while meeting the required maximum capacity numbers.
  • Additional coaching and training staff are permitted, limited strictly to those officially rostered with the team/athletes as identified in their provincial association’s return to play protocols, provided physical distancing can be maintained.
  • No contact permitted for team or individual sports.
  1. How do we enter a City of Kitchener arena?
Entry is monitored by an Arena Ambassador and will only be permitted 10 minutes prior to rental, when the space is empty and sanitized. Guardians that have not pre-screened with their team/league, must do so with the Ambassador. You will be screened and be required to leave your name and phone number for contact tracing purposes.
  2. Why do you need my personal contact information when screening?
For contact tracing purposes, visitors to any City of Kitchener arena are required to leave a name and phone number.
  3. I have prescreened do I have to give my information again?
If you have pre-screened with the team/league, you should be arriving with them as a group. If you are on your own and have pre-screened, let the Ambassador know and a team rep will confirm that they have received it OR if your team/league uses an app on a mobile device you can show the passed screening.
  4. Can players change at the arena?
Players are expected to come at minimum dressed in their base layer (e.g., Under Armor) as the chairs are located in a public space. All chairs must stay in their socially distanced place at all times. We have a zero tolerance policy for nudity at our arenas.
  5. My child plays for a KMHA hockey team and I understand I can prescreen. Where do I do that?
KMHA has set up their own spectator pre-screening system, which allows caregivers to enter with participants, accompanied by a team rep or coach. Anyone who does not pre-screen with the team/league may do so with the Ambassador, see FAQ #1 and #2.
  6. What are the spectator capacities?
In the interest of visitor safety, there are currently no spectators allowed at any facility. One parent/guardian can accompany a minor under the age of 18 and stay to spectate during the program.
  7. Do guardians/participants have access to a bathroom?
There is one restroom available for all visitors in attendance. Visitors are encouraged to use the restroom before visiting the arena.
  8. Can I bring my coffee in with me?
Beverages are allowed inside the rink, but food is not permitted.
  9. Is there re-entry to the arenas?
There is no re-entry into the arena once you are pre-screened and in the venue. This is to maintain capacity numbers and lessen touchpoints.
  10. Where do I enter/exit the arena; everything is locked?
Each arena has signage indicating the entry point, player and guardian areas and the exit door. For arena specific procedures please see below.
  11. What are the rental capacities?
